COMMISSIONER INSPECTS WESTERN DIVISION
COMPRI Inspection Team with staff of Ba Prison during the COMPRI's end of the year inspection. Fiji Prisons and Corrections Services (FPCS) COMPRI Brigadier General Ioane Naivalurua reminded his officers yesterday (Thursday, December 04, 2009) that his end of the year inspection should not be a stress for the officers. “I am not here to spy on you and my visit should not bring stress and fear on officers”. The COMPRI Brigadier General Naivalurua said that he enjoys visiting institutions and the aim of his inspection is to identify areas that will help officers in the work that they do. “We are here to test out if we are doing our work well, to know what we have done right and to measure what we have achieved so far throughout the year” The COMPRI said that all officers must know what is happening within the organization. Officers sat a half an hour test prepared by the inspection team. “Everyone must think. The more you know and understand your job, the easier your work will be”. The commissioner also asked officers about the care part of their work. “We need to treat offenders as human beings. We cannot change people if we fail to see them as human beings”. The COMPRI also warned officers not to take the law into their own hands. “Officers who take the law into their own hands will be dealt with. Orders from leadership should be respected and adhered to”. The COMPRI said that he has seen a growth within FPCS and he thanked all officers for their great effort and support. “This year FPCS won the Prime Minister’s Achievement Award and the award is for all of us including our families. The award was achieved through the hard work of all officers”. “I can say that we have achieved our objectives for this year and we are doing the right thing and we’re heading the right direction”. The commissioner also spoke on the direction FPCS will be gearing to in the year 2010. “Our theme for next year is “The Relentless Pursuit of Excellence” not only in the work that we do but also in our families. The commissioner in his Christmas message reminded officers and their wives the importance of having a good and healthy relationship within their families. “I want the relationship between officers and your wives to be improved. Make this Christmas different from the others; spend time with your family this Christmas. Look after your children’s education and welfare”. The commissioner also inspected officers’ quarters and commended the cleanliness of the staff quarters and its compounds. Awards were handed out to officers’ wives for best kept house-keeping. The Commissioners Inspection continues next week with the team heading to Naboro. www.corrections.org.fj |
