YELLOW RIBBON ON KORO ISLAND
yellow ribbon on koro islandThe Yellow Ribbon message of forgiveness, acceptance and of giving a second chance has reached the Koro Island.

The opening of the Babakobau family shop at Vunivanua, Koro Island was an opportunity for POA Sakiusa Veiwili to distribute yellow ribbons to family members and also to speak on the importance of community action in assisting offenders to reintegrate successfully back into the society when they are released from prison.

All family members were wearing yellow ribbon when the shop was opened and consecrated by the Methodist minister of the Koro circuit.

The Maximum Security officer also took the time to address members of the Methodist Youth Fellowship(MYF) from the 14 villages on the island who were having their annual camp on a nearby village.

POA Veiwili reported that the islanders were really appreciative of the message of the yellow ribbon and the work of the correctional service in introducing the initiative. As the message was taken to the island not so long after the inaugural launch of the Yellow Ribbon Project in Suva and much have been mentioned in the radio, there was a lot of interest on the island.
The family shop is managed by Mr Sakiasi Babakobau who is the younger brother of POA Veiwili.
