TURN OFFENDERS INTO LAW-ABIDING CITIZENS,SAYS ENVOY
pass out parade of 2008THE successful reintegration of offenders back into the community is the best security for society.
This was the message of the Ambassador of the People's Republic of China, Han Zhiqiang, at the passing out parade at Naboro Prison yesterday where 23 recruits graduated.

"The offenders should be given a second chance to be reintegrated into the society. It is a point that I fully endorse," he said.

"To turn an inmate to the one who can lead a productive and law abiding life is indeed the shared objective of all communities.

It is a tough job. It needs your hard work, devotion and even sacrifice of lives.

"But it is your contribution that will make people's lives better."

Mr Zhiqiang said China and Fiji have enjoyed a long history of friendship and the embassy would maintain it that way.

He assured Prisons Commissioner Brigadier Ioane Naivalurua the embassy would continue to support them in the important area of prisons and corrections.

"And we will work closely with you to expand our cooperation and exchanges in this regard," he added.
