SINGING TO VICTORY
![]() They did it again. They sang their hearts out to the glory of God. And won. Again The Prisons Choir comprising of inmates from Suva and Nasinu took part in this year’s Methodist Church’s annual choir competition and went home, or back to prison to be precise, with the trophy. It is the second year in a row that the inmates have won the first prize in the second grade of competition of choirs with less than 50 members. To top it all off, the choir master Sergent Delana was judged the best choir conductor in the week long competition. “It is an honour and joy that the boys had done it again,” says Sgt Delana. “It clearly shows that the boys are capable of good things and deserves another opportunity to put right the errors of their ways.” The boys were given additional encouragement by the Deputy Commissioner of Prisons, Auta Moceisuva to give moral support while they sang their hearts out. “It is joyous and proud moment for the boys and for the Prison Service as a whole,” Mr Moce says. “The performance underscores the message we are trying to tell the community that if given a second chance, offenders could become productive members of the community.” Forty-six inmates accompanied by one officer took part. The inmates have been participating in the competition for several years. The officers of the Prisons Service also took part in the annual competition through the Ministry of Justice choir. |
