SINGAPORE EXPERIENCE - IMPORTANT STATISTICS
Singapore Corporation of Rehabilitative Enterprise(SCORE)
• Set up in 1976 under an Act of Parliament to spearhead the successful reintegration of offenders back into society through securing of employment.
• Is part of the Singapore correctional system
• 130 staff, 10-15 percent are ex-offenders
• 1747 employers registered at 2007
• Assisted 2475 inmates and ex-offenders to find jobs in 2007
• Handles laundry from 95 percent of hospitals in Singapore with a capacity of 55 tons a day
• Provides two meals a day to 6000 inmates
• Bakery has capacity to produce 1200 loaves an hour.
Singapore Prisons Service
• An average of 10,000 inmates are released from prisons each year.
• 12,000 inmates in custody
• Staff complement of 2500
• 3800 inmates are employed in various industries in prison institutions
Yellow Ribbon Project
• Comes under CARE(Community Action for the Rehabilitation of Ex-offenders) formed in 2000
• Launched in 2004 to garner community support
• One million yellow ribbons have been distributed
• 260,000 Singaporeans participants have attended YRP events.
• $3.9 million raised for the Yellow Ribbon Fund.
