SECOND CHANCE CENTRAL AT YRP LAUNCH
Nasinu Prison inmate Vilimoni Vuganalau leads this lively meke performance during the official launch of the Yellow Ribbon Project at Ratu Sukuna Park in Suva yesterday.THE Yellow Ribbon Project was launched in Suva yesterday. And giving a second chance was the message conveyed to the public by the Prisons Department at Sukuna Park. The program is a joint incentive by the Prisons Department and the interim Government which aims to give released prisoners a second chance to prove themselves as helpful and useful members of society. Prisons Commissioner Brigadier Ioane Naivalurua said the goal was to create awareness of the need to give a second chance to ex-offenders and to generate their acceptance by their families. "Inmates have families like us and should not be treated any differently after serving their punishment," he said. Singapore Prisons assistant director of operations Desmond, who was the chief guest, said the program offered prisoners hope for a better life and rehabilitation at the same time. The launch was attended family and friends of prisoners.The crowd was also entertained with traditional dances. |
