Acting ASP Viliame Bulewa at the Radio Gold studio talking to the nation about the Yellow Ribbon Project. The Staff Officer Research and Planning at Head Office is among awareness team of officers and inmates who have been going out to engage with the community about giving offenders are second chance. ASP Bulewa has a weekly on Mondays between 9 and 10 am with the Fiji Broadcasting Commission station.

The awareness team has a featured in VitiFM, Radio Sargam. Radio Mirchi, TodayFM, BulaFM, Radio Light, Radio Hope and Bula Namaste. The team has also visited schools, business houses, churches, municipal councils and urban communities. The Director of Education, Training and Rehabilitation, Acting ASP Ulaisi Radio says the team will continue to go to the various communities and key stakeholders preach the message of forgiveness, acceptance and giving a second chance to offenders until the launch of the Yellow Ribbon on October 11.

“The response from the community has been encouraging and we hope to see people especially the families of offenders in our care to march with us from Albert Park to Sukuna Park at the launch as a demonstration of support and solidarity,” ASP Radio says.

The unity of the family is seen as fundamental in the various initiatives been initiated or undertaken by the Prisons and Corrections Servive. Mr Radio says the Officer in Charge of the 13 institution have also been engaging with the families when they visit about the significance of the Yellow Ribbon to them and their loved ones who being incarcerated.

Similar awareness activities are being held in the West and in the North. The competition was held between August 15 and 23.
