LOOKING OUT
According to the artist, Prisoner Solomoni Qurai, “The Eye represents society and how it reacts to an individual, in terms of his or her mistakes that people may look at”. Mr. Qurai reckons that eyes do speak and it can really affect a person’s feelings when stared at. “As a convicted prisoner, it is painful to be stared at. It makes me feel alone and pushed away from the society”. On reflecting on his paintings, he says that it symbolises the three main focuses of his life, which are his Family, Vanua and Religion. “I once was able to know where I’m from when I was with a family and a religion, but now I’m on the Look Out… still on a look out”. |
