15 INMATES LEARN SEEDS OF SUCCESS

Inmates at the Medium Corrections Centre during the Seeds of Success workshop.

Fifteen inmates of the Medium Corrections Centre in Naboro yesterday began a 3-day workshop on Seeds of Success.

The course, facilitated by the Ministry of Youth, is part of the efforts of the Fiji Corrections Service to rehabilitate inmates.

Staff Officer Rehabilitation, Principal Corrections officer Vika Vereivalu said Seeds of Success workshop is aimed at teaching participants how they can sow seeds which will ensure life-long success.

“These inmates have been specifically chosen to undertake this workshop because of their good conduct and behavior and the duration of their terms is also taken into consideration.

“They have also been assessed to become participants and this course is phase three of the rehabilitation framework,” PPO Vereivalu said.

While opening the workshop, Officer-in-Charge Apimeleki Taukei urged the inmates to make use of the opportunity to learn and take back something with them when they are released.

“We are trying very hard to ensure that you learn something when you undergo this kind of training so that when you go back into the community you can earn for your families.

“The idea is also to ensure that when you walk out of that gate, you tell yourself that you will never return,” Mr Taukei said.

The workshop ends tomorrow.
