INMATE CONTINUES PAID EMPLOYMENT
Inmate Segran Murti at work at Caines Jannif. Segran Murti is the eighth inmate this year to be involved in a full-time paid job while serving his term at the Suva Corrections Centre. A Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) signed yesterday between the Fiji Corrections Service and Caines Jannif saw a second extension of his work contract, effective from November 15 to May 14, 2012. “Our engagement with willing employment providers is the fourth and final phase of the rehabilitation framework which basically is the community programme. “It is aimed at preparing inmates for their release by allowing them to blend with society and at the same time, acquiring life-long skills,” FCS public relations officer Ana Tamani said. Caines Jannif general manager Kelsey Jannif commended the programme saying inmates are released into society with the stigma and the community rejects them. “This is a great programme because it helps them adapt well into society and there is a better chance of their acceptance by the community,” Mrs Jannif said. Supervisor Southern Superintendent Sairusi Gauna assured that Murti would be visited by FCS authorities frequently for encouragement and support. www.corrections.org.fj |
