Background Information

Nasinu prison was established in 1971 to accommodate young offenders between the ages of 16 – 19 years of old. It is situated beside the Army Training Group at Nasinu in the Central Division at the province of Rewa. Prisoner’s employment includes root crops and vegetable farming, fish farming, upkeep of prison compound and cemetery.

Since Nasinu Prison is a pilot prison for Education, Training and Rehabilitation Programs, it has been undertaking programs such as:

  • Agriculture Training
  • Tradition and Culture
  • Automotive Training
  • Religious Programs
  • Counseling Programs
  • Wielding Courses
  • Panel Beating
  • Start Your Own Business Courses.
In addition, prisoner’s serving at Nasinu Prison are also given the privilege to pursue further studies at the University of the South Pacific (USP), Fiji Institute of Technology (FIT) and the Training for Productivity Authority of Fiji (TPAF).
