WE ARE IN CONVERSATION WITH GOD
JEREMIAH 36: 27 - 32
King Jehoiakim believes that by burning the scroll he has destroyed, not just the words themselves, but also the power they contain to influence events. However, he is mistaken. THE WORD OF THE LORD CAME TO JEREMIAH, ‘TAKE ANOTHER SCROLL AND WRITE ON IT ALL THE FORMER WORDS THAT WERE IN THE FIRST SCROLL, WHICH KING JEHOIAKIM OF JUDAH HAS BURNED. AND CONCERNING KING JEHOIAKIM OF JUDAH YOU SHALL SAY, THUS SAYS THE LORD, YOU HAVE DARED TO BURN THIS SCROLL, SAYING, WHY HAVE YOU WRITTEN IN IT THAT THE KIND OF BABYLON WILL CERTAINLY COME AND DESTROY THIS LAND, AND WILL CUT OFF FROM IT HUMAN BEINGS AND ANIMALS’? [VS 27 – 29] No one, not even a King, has the power to destroy the word of god. God’s word lives on because God is eternally alive. When God commands Jeremiah to write another scroll, the message includes God’s judgment of Jehoiakim’s. www.corrections.org.fj |
