As a follow up from the Yellow Ribbon Outreach Conference that was held at the Naboro Prison Complex last week, 13 volunteers that counsel inmates on drug and addictive substances dependency will be undergoing a workshop for two days over the next seven weeks.

The volunteers from different faith based organisations and Non Government Organisations work together under the Fiji Prisons and Correctional Services (FPCS) Chaplaincy.

FPCS Chaplain Reverend Aporosa Regeci said that the programme is collaboration with the University of Nations.
“We are currently working together in collaboration with the University of Nations from Hawaii and the Youth with a Mission (YWAM).

“They are here to set up an Addictive Behavioural Counseling School which will run training workshops from September 28 to December 18, 2009.”

Rev Regeci said that local contacts on the ground in Fiji are Mrs Debra and Mr Jeremaia Nakora and the training over the last two days (October 14&15) was conducted by Cai Alpha Counseling Mr Jude Morris from Australia.

The workshop is being conducted at no cost to the FPCS, the trainers as they come from abroad to conduct their programmes at the Behavioural Counseling School will offer up two day to conduct sessions for the volunteers.

It has been established that most crimes perpetrated have been linked to drugs and addictive substance abuse.
The training of the volunteers is part of the Yellow Ribbon Project in the engagement of the society through the FPCS Chaplaincy Programme by up skilling the volunteers in counseling techniques.
